ALBADI SCHOOL

Albadi is an abbreviation of Aleke Banza Dieto. It comes from the Kikongo, the language spoken in the West in the Lower Congo province. It means: children-ideas-our, that is our idea (project) for the children, or, Help Children. Albadi is an initiative of Albert and Rose Diluambanzila. Married, both members of the Inkisi Subud group, they form the Parent Home. Rose is a helper in the group and Albert is the National SES co-ordinator. Albert is a former Jesuit and worked in Rwanda and the Burundi. Albadi is a home for orphans that has existed for 5 years. There are now 10 child boarders. They are organizing some modest income generating activities. The objectives of the project are:
- to recreate a framework where the opportunities of the human being are valued by acknowledging the dignity, the freedoms and the greatness of the children.

  • To offer a natural family area for the education of children and teen-agers.
  • To look after children born to parents who are victims of sexually transmitted diseases.
  • To offer a vocational training framework.
  • To try and solve educational problems with applied pedagogy.

With financial support from SD Norway and the Blond Trust, Rose and Albert, with the help of the children are building a new school.

NKEMBO SCHOOL

Kiti Ki Menghi and his wife, Marie Claire, started the Nkembo School in 1985 with 12 children and two classrooms. In 2002, this elementary and secondary school in Muanda (on the Atlantic) had 655 students and 33 teachers and staff. From 1997-2002, SD Switzerland, SD France, SD Germany and SD USA formed a partnership with Nkembo School, under the coordination of Lienhard Berger.  This partnership provided much assistance to the school – the completion of 9 classrooms, building accommodations for international volunteer teachers, a generator to provide stable electricity, teacher training and a computer classroom. The school operates today on school fees and income generated from micro-enterprises associated with the school.
