In order for human beings to reach their potential, certain basic needs must be fulfilled. Children need a good education. Communities need access to healthcare and economic opportunities. At the same time, environmental issues need to be addressed to ensure sustainable living in the future.
The poorest communities are the most vulnerable to climate change and environmental destruction. Changing practices and finding alternative ways of growing food, ensuring access to safe water and protecting the environment leads to good stewardship of our planet.
Marginalized communities need to strengthen their social, eco- nomic and political participation if they ever hope to be able to shape their own destiny. Their ability to achieve common goals and create sustainable livelihoods is increased by building skills and awareness of issues affecting them.
Much of the world’s population is denied access to any type of healthcare. Every year in the poorest countries of the world, seven million infants die, mainly of preventable diseases, malnutrition and a lack of neonatal care and safe childbirth and nearly 800 million people are without clean drinking water.
Globally, around 69 million children are not in school. In developing countries, insufficient numbers of children complete a full cycle of primary schooling, and the quality of education and teacher training are significant problems.
