This nonprofit organisation is a subsidiary of the ICDP Foundation. Since 1995, it has run training sessions on child education for individuals and governmental and non-governmental organisations in several regions in Colombia.
ICDP believes that every culture develops its own survival, care and development mechanisms for children and these native practices need identifying, reactivating and empowering to stimulate an indigenous form of child development, which can last indefinitely. The programme has reached nearly half a million children.
ICDP has a continuing cooperation with UNICEF involving local institutions and the ICBF (Colombian Institute of Family Welfare) working with Afro-Colombian and indigenous communities. The methodology is adapted to the indigenous communities and is part of the department’s Early Childhood comprehensive care programme. Programmes also include protecting children from violence.
